We arrived in Puerto Limon in the early morning. The view was breathtaking. The beach was dotted with palm trees and the sun was rising over the horizon. I couldn’t help but feel like I was in paradise.
We decided to take a stroll down the beach and explore the area. We came across some stalls set up by the water and I couldn’t help but take a few souvenirs for my family back home. I also picked up a fresh coconut, which was delicious! We continued our walk and came across Playa Bonita, Playa Blanca and Puerto Viejo. These beaches were beautiful and the water was so warm. We decided to relax here for a while and soak up the sun. We took a dip in the ocean and I was amazed at how clear the water was.
The food was some of the best I have ever had. We tasted our way through Puerto Limon enjoying the mix of Spanish and Afro-Caribbean flavors. The highlight of the trip was trying rondon, a hearty, ginger-spiced stew of coconut milk, yams and seafood. It was absolutely delicious. We also had agua de sapo (ginger lemonade), patacones (fried plantains), and chicharrones, slices of deep-fried pork belly brightened up with a pinch of lime. It was a culinary experience to remember.
We also had some time to go shopping. We stopped by the Mercado Municipal for leatherware, ceramics, pottery, and wood carvings. We also went to shoreside shops in beaches like Playa Bonita for ocean-inspired souvenirs. It was great to pick up some unique and special souvenirs to remember the trip. The day was so much fun and we had an incredible time in Puerto Limon. We’re already planning our next cruise to Costa Rica so that we can visit Puerto Limon again.
Just got back from a wonderful cruise and one port was San Juan, Puerto Rico, I cannot wait to share my experience with all of you. The trip was absolutely amazing, and one of the best parts was our stop in San Juan.
We arrived in San Juan in the early afternoon and the energy of the city was immediately palpable. From the moment we stepped off the boat, we were surrounded by an exciting buzz of activity, with people chatting and laughing, vendors selling their wares, and music playing in the background.
The smell of the ocean was in the air, and the sun was shining, making the whole city seem like a dream. We decided to take a walk around the city, and the sights we saw were incredible. Everywhere we looked, we saw beautiful old buildings in a variety of styles, from Spanish colonial to art deco. We also came across amazing street art and graffiti, as well as some stunning monuments and sculptures.
As we walked around, we also noticed that San Juan was a very welcoming city. People were friendly and eager to engage in conversation, and we felt right at home.
Once we had explored the city, we decided to grab some lunch. We had heard about a restaurant called La Casita de Zafra and were eager to try it out. The restaurant was a bright and airy space, decorated with colorful tiles and filled with the aromas of traditional Puerto Rican cuisine. We ordered a few dishes to share, including mofongo (mashed plantain) and churrasco (grilled steak). Everything was absolutely delicious, and we felt like we were eating in a relative’s home.
After lunch, we decided to take a stroll along the beach. We were blown away by the beauty of the ocean, and the feel of the sand beneath our feet. We watched the waves crashing against the shore, and felt the salty breeze on our skin. We could have stayed there all day, but eventually, we had to get back on the ship.
San Juan was an incredible stop on our trip and one that I will never forget. The city is full of culture and beauty, and the people are warm and welcoming. I highly recommend visiting San Juan if you ever get the chance.
